Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is Running for The President of The United States

On Tuesday, February 14th, Former South Carolina Governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley announced her candidacy and campaign for the President of the United States of America. She is running as 2024 republican nominee against her former boss President Donald Trump. After Trump lost the 2020 Presidential Election, Nikki Haley made a promise not to run against him if he sought the republican party's nomination in 2024. Though Trump announced his White House campaign back in November, Haley began talking about needing a new generation of Republicans to lead the country in public spaces including a few high profile appearances on Fox News. Haley served as the U.N. ambassador during the Trump presidency for nearly two years from 2017 through 2018. Prior to joining the Trump White House, Haley was governor of South Carolina from 2011 until 2017. She was the first woman to lead the Palmetto State.

President Joe Biden has stated he intends to seek re-election in 2024, for the Democratic nomination. Nikki Haley has regularly boasted about her track record of defying political expectations, saying, “I’ve never lost an election, and I’m not going to start now.”If elected, Haley would be the nation’s first female president and the first U.S. president of Indian descent. The daughter of Indian immigrants, Haley grew up enduring racist taunts in a small South Carolina town and has long referenced that impact on her personal and political.

According to CNN, Trump weighed in on Haley’s announcement, saying in a statement to CNN, “Even though Nikki Haley said, ‘I would never run against my President, he was a great President, the best President in my lifetime,’ I told her she should follow her heart and do what she wants to do. I wish her luck!” Trump was referencing a statement Haley made in April 2021 when she said she “would not run if President Trump ran,” a sentiment she later walked back as she called for a new generation of leadership.
